LANCASTER, PENNSYLVANIA - A Lancaster city man charged with breaking a 3-year-old child’s bones in a violent assault will have his case proceed to county court after waiving his preliminary hearing late last month.

Michael Torres, 27, waived his preliminary hearing before Judge Adam Witkonis on Aug. 27 on charges of aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children.

Torres is accused of breaking and displacing the victim’s femur by hitting him multiple times at his residence in the 500 block of High Street the morning of July 20. When confronted by police,

Torres admitted to having struck the victim three to four times “really hard,” saying he did so out of anger and frustration that the victim wouldn’t go to sleep.

At one point during the assault Torres exclaimed that he was “going to give him something to cry about,” he told police.

Nursing staff at a local hospital called police called police after they suspected Torres had physically abused the victim.

Torres remains in Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bail.
