PHOENIX, ARIZONA - Troopers say a man was drunk and high when he crashed on Interstate 10 in west Phoenix, killing a 6-year-old girl and seriously injuring a 2-year-old on Sunday evening.
Court records stated Turatsinze Gadi, 21, was booked into jail on second-degree murder, endangerment, aggravated assault, and failure to stay at the scene of an accident involving death.
In arresting documents, troopers said witnesses reported seeing the driver of a Toyota Tundra pickup truck speeding in and out of traffic moments before crashing into a Toyota Corolla sedan and fleeing. He continued onto the Loop 202 freeway before coming to a stop about two miles from the crash scene, DPS said.
At that point, Gadi exited the truck and walked towards the QuikTrip, where he was arrested and taken to the hospital after he showed signs of being drunk, DPS said. Blood tests returned a .219 BAC level, and he also tested for THC, the psychoactive component of marijuana, according to court paperwork.
