CLEVELAND, OHIO - A 13-year-old Black girl in Cleveland, Ohio, was hospitalized after being violently attacked and scalped by a group of classmates. The incident occurred in early October and has sparked outrage across the community and online.
According to reports, the girl was assaulted by three other girls—two Black and one white—who allegedly dragged her by her hair and slammed her head into the pavement repeatedly. The attack left her with severe scalp injuries, requiring emergency surgery and ongoing medical care.
The victim’s mother stated that her daughter had been bullied for months at school, with repeated complaints made to administrators that were allegedly ignored. The bullying escalated into physical violence outside of school grounds, where the attackers reportedly ambushed her.
Photos shared by the family show large sections of the girl’s scalp missing, with visible stitches and bruising. The images have gone viral, prompting calls for accountability from school officials and law enforcement.
Cleveland police confirmed that they are investigating the incident and have identified the suspects, though no arrests have been publicly announced. The school district issued a statement expressing concern and promising a full review of its bullying policies.
The victim’s family has retained legal counsel and is considering civil action against the school for negligence. Community members have organized rallies and online campaigns demanding justice and better protections for students facing harassment.
