TOLEDO, OHIO - A convicted MS-13 gang member charged in federal court for being in the country illegally pleaded guilty and was sentenced Friday.

Juan Carlos Alvarez-Robles, also known as Jose Mayorga, 39, a Mexican national, appeared by video in U.S. District Court in Toledo and pleaded guilty to one count of illegal re-entry and one count of false personation of a U.S. citizen. Judge James Carr sentenced him to time served and three years on supervised release. He was remanded into U.S. Marshal custody.

Daniel Ball, a spokesman for the U.S. Department of Justice, on Friday afternoon said deportation proceedings through the U.S. Bureau of Immigration and Customs Enforcement are expected to begin soon.

Alvarez-Robles was taken into custody in January. He has been removed from the United States on at least five prior occasions — the last being in December, 2014 — and has a criminal history dating back nearly 30 years, according to a criminal complaint filed in the court. Past charges include possession of a controlled substance, transporting and selling narcotics, grand theft auto, and several accounts of theft and burglary.
