Jeremy arrested for murder after killing Jalisa and Jerad in a 2024 head-on crash in Montgomery County Alabama

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, ALABAMA - A Union Springs man has been charged for his role in a head-on crash that killed two people back in May of 2024.

Jeremy Humphrey, 36, of Union Springs, was indicted June 20 on two counts of reckless murder, the indictment alleging that he was under the influence of alcohol the night of the crash.

The crash happened May 5, 2024, around 11:30 p.m., when two cars collided head-on.

Humphrey, the driver of one of the cars, was taken to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery for treatment of his injuries.

The driver of the other car, Jerad E. Swartz, 32, of Roanoke, Virginia, and the passenger in Humphrey’s car, Jalisa L. Smart-Haynes, 31, of Union Springs, were both fatally injured in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene.
