Woman sentenced for torturing friend in wheelchair, trying to feed him bleach

DETROIT, MICHIGAN - A Detroit woman was sentenced Thursday to between five and 25 years after pleading guilty to torture in the brutal attack of a wheelchair-bound friend.
Brittany Walker, 35, was accused of trying to force-feed bleach to the 44-year-old victim after an argument at his Detroit apartment earlier this year.
Walker was arrested on multiple felony charges — including torture and abuse of a vulnerable adult — on Feb. 14.
According to prosecutors, Walker and a co-defendant, 62-year-old Samuel Payton, tried to force the victim to swallow bleach by pouring it down his throat, local Fox affiliate WJBK reported.
The victim, Andreas Bryant, was hospitalized with a brain bleed and a broken eye socket as a result of the attack.
Walker pleaded guilty to the torture charge on Aug. 5. As part of her plea deal, she agreed to a sentence of between five and 25 years in prison.
On Thursday, Michigan Circuit Court Judge Kelly Ann Ramsey honored the agreement. She also ordered Walker to no longer have contact with the victim for what she called an “unconscionable” and “horrific” tragedy.
Bryant, who declined to appear in court, sent an impact statement that was read by the prosecution. Referring to Walker as his “little sister,” Bryant asked the court for leniency.
“She has an alcohol and drug addiction, and getting away from drugs would help her,” the statement read in part. “She has always been there for me like a little sister until her best friend started her on drugs, and that is the only time I saw her like that. I don’t know how the court will decide, but I do ask for leniency because what she needs is help.”
