NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT - Immigration enforcement officials announced on Friday that they lodged a detainer for a man accused of sexually assaulting a jogger in New Haven.
ICE said Ludvi Carias-Interiano held a box cutter to the woman’s throat during the assault on Aug. 9 near Fort Hale Park.
ICE said it lodged a detainer against Ludvi Carias-Interiano, an illegal immigrant who was arrested for a sexual assault that happened in New Haven.
It also said the detainer should prevent his release. It pointed out that he had been deported twice before the most recent assault arrest.
ICE blamed the state’s "Trust Act” for severely limiting law enforcement cooperation with ICE, which effectively made Connecticut a sanctuary state.
“This criminal illegal alien should have never been in our country in the first place to commit this heinous rape of a young women jogging in the park. This violent criminal has prior charges for sexual assault of a minor and violent assault,” said assistant secretary Tricia McLaughlin. “ICE lodged an arrest detainer to ensure this criminal illegal alien is not released on U.S. streets to terrorize more innocent women. Unfortunately, Connecticut is a sanctuary state that protects predators like Carias-Interian by refusing to work with ICE. These sanctuary politicians put American lives in danger.”
ICE said Carias-Interiano also has a criminal history of assault. His two deportments came during President Donald Trump’s first term. However, he returned unlawfully at an unknown date and location.
