Ceasar charged with murder in Tulsa Oklahoma after pistol-whipping and shooting man while collecting a debt

TULSA, OKLAHOMA — The Tulsa Police Department said Saturday that a suspect was arrested late Friday after the city saw its 34th homicide of the year.
Police responded around 10:15 p.m. Friday to a 911 call from the suspect, identified as Ceasar Smith, at 6738 S. Louisville Ave. He reported that he had shot a man he had just met, stating the man was dead after making advances toward him. Smith claimed he struck the victim with a gun, and it went off.
Police found the victim, James Johnson, dead in the kitchen with a gunshot wound to the head. Smith was taken into custody and provided conflicting statements, initially claiming the victim was acting erratically and waving a gun, leading to a struggle where the gun accidentally discharged.

OVERNIGHT HOMICIDE
On September 19, 2025, at approximately 10:15 PM, Tulsa Police responded to a 911 call from Ceasar Smith at 6738 S. Louisville Ave. Smith reported that he had shot a man he had just met, stating the man was deceased after making advances toward him. Smith claimed he struck the victim with a gun, and it went off.
Officers arrived and found the victim, James Johnson, deceased in the kitchen with a gunshot wound to the head. Smith was taken into custody and provided conflicting statements, initially claiming the victim was acting erratically and waving a gun, leading to a struggle where the gun accidentally discharged.
Later, at the Detective Division, Smith admitted he had the gun and was there to help collect a debt.
He stated he pistol-whipped Johnson, and the gun accidentally fired.
