BERTIE COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA- Bertie County Sheriff Tyrone Ruffin says a toddler died last December “at the hands of her mother.”
The sheriff held a late morning news conference to update the public on the case of Jamie Drain.
The two-year-old died on December 2nd from blunt force trauma to the head at a home on Jack Branch Road, outside of Lewiston Woodville, according to an autopsy.
The child’s mother, Raja Drain, was indicted yesterday for murder and felony child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury.
The sheriff said this morning that doctors told investigators that the injuries could not have been done by another child. He said Drain was the only adult in the home at the time.
