PEORIA, ILLINOIS — A man will remain in jail after allegedly shooting his ex in order to prove his love for his new girlfriend.
Jaquon Timothy, 23, was ordered held by a Peoria County judge on a charge of aggravated battery with a firearm, said Peoria County State’s Attorney Office spokeswoman Anna Perales.
If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison.
Perales said that when police interviewed Timothy’s current girlfriend, she allegedly told them that “Timothy had told her before the shooting that he would shoot his ex-girlfriend.”
Officers with the Peoria Police Department were called at 1:21 a.m. to the 2300 block of West Starr Street on a 12-round ShotSpotter alert, according to police spokesperson Semone Roth at the time.
When officers arrived, they found a woman who had been shot in both of her feet, and transported her to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Roth said.
She then allegedly told them that after the shooting, he told her he had “carried it out.”
After a search warrant was, conducted for a search of his phone, they allegedly found proof that he claimed ownership of the shooting in text messages, Perales said.
