BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA – A federal jury has found Jaylin Artez Patton, 29, of Birmingham, guilty on multiple charges, including being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of a machinegun, possession of fentanyl, and possession of a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, U.S. Attorney Prim F. Escalona announced.
The verdict came after three days of testimony before U.S. District Court Judge Annemarie C. Axon. Evidence presented at trial revealed that officers from the Birmingham Police Department, with assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), attempted to stop Patton to execute an arrest warrant.
Patton fled the scene, leading officers on a pursuit. He drove off the interstate into a ditch and a fence before exiting the vehicle and fleeing on foot. Officers apprehended Patton shortly after the foot pursuit.
Authorities recovered fentanyl and a Glock pistol that had been converted to a machinegun using a device known as a "Glock switch."
