CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA - A GoFundMe is raising money for the family of a 16-year-old boy who was shot at a home in northwest Charlotte on Sunday.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police responded to a reported shooting at a home on East Todd Lane around 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 21. The teen, 16-year-old Jeremiah Gonzalez, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The shooting happened while the boy was allegedly at a sleepover.
A GoFundMe was started by someone who knows his family. The organizer says Gonzalez was asleep when another person at the sleepover "pulled out a gun and shot him in the face." The page says doctors informed Gonzalez's family that he won't survive.
"Jeremiah was a bright, kind, and loving young man with his whole future ahead of him," the page reads. "His life was taken far too soon, and the pain his family is experiencing is impossible to put into words."
According to the police report, the shooting involved a known suspect, but police haven't released any further details about the incident. CMPD classifies the incident as an aggravated assault and the report lists a handgun as the weapon used.
