BAKERSFIELD, CALIFORNIA — A jury returned a true finding for a man convicted of killing a gang member in 2022 after a change in law regarding gang crimes and enhancements called for a retrial.
On September 25, 2025, a Kern County jury found it true that Israel Chuca did commit a “Killing by a Street Gang Member.”
The Kern County District Attorney’s Office said on August 2, 2019, Israel Chuca was driving eastbound on Niles Street when he saw Carlos Venegas and a second victim walking in the opposite direction.
