MIRAMAR, CALIFORNIA - A jury on Monday convicted a man in the 2020 murder of his roommate in Miramar.
Marvin Jean-Pierre, 26, had been indicted on a first-degree murder charge in the 2020 killing of 52-year-old Jose Mondelus.
Jurors reached the guilty verdict nearly a week after Jean-Pierre's trial started.
“While we respect the jury’s verdict, we disagree with it," said Gabe Ermine, a defense attorney. "Of course we respect it, and we plan to appeal."
During the trial, jurors had to decide if they agreed with Jean-Pierre's claims that he attacked Mondelus in self-defense due to unwanted sexual advances or if he was guilty of first-degree murder.
