Early last week, LaVentrice Denise Tolbert and her sister were visiting while on break from their jobs at Birmingham’s Top Golf when the conversation took an unexpected, and somber, turn.
Denise, affectionately called “Vent” by her close family members, began to tell her older sister, Monique Tolbert, how she wanted her funeral to be handled.
...
“And two days after that,” Monique said, “I got the worst phone call of my life.”
Denise, 40, was dead from a gunshot wound. Her longtime boyfriend, 35-year-old Tony Dewayne Davis, died two days later at UAB Hospital from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Authorities said Davis shot Denise before turning the gun on himself in their east Birmingham home.
