MIAMI, FLORIDA - A woman convicted in the hit-and-run death of a beloved grandmother refused to apologize to the victim's family as she was sentenced to four years in prison.
Sharon Cox, 65, will spend the next four years in prison, followed by an additional two years on probation for the tragic 2023 death of 67-year-old Patricia Garner.
She struck Garner, Garner's son and a Miami Gardens community center employee with her car in the parking lot.
Garner's devastated family told NBC that Cox remained silent during her sentencing hearing after admitting guilt for the crash.
She offered no apology and took no accountability for the accident, the grieving family said.
'Ms. Cox didn't even stand up and say that she was sorry,' Garner's sister-in-law Sandra Welch said. 'She didn't say one word.'
The frustrated family have spent years demanding Cox take accountability for her actions, the publication stated.
The four-year sentence comes months after state prosecutors sparked outrage by offering Cox a plea deal that would have seen her spend just one year behind bars.
