OPELIKA, ALABAMA - A Lee County judge found probable cause on capital murder charges Wednesday morning at a preliminary hearing for the man accused in the death of a beloved veterinarian and professor at Auburn University.
Dr. Julie Gard Schnuelle, 59, a professor emerita in the Department of Clinical Sciences at Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, was found dead on Sept. 6 at Kiesel Park in Auburn, where she regularly ran and took her dogs.
Lee County Circuit Judge Jeffrey Gerald Tickal sent the case to a Lee County grand jury after finding probable cause during a 45-minute hearing at the Lee County Justice Center in Opelika.
Dabney appeared at the hearing with his court- appointed attorneys - Artie Vaughn and Andrew Dykes Stanley - but did not speak.
Auburn Police Detective Taylor Clark was the only witness at the hearing. He responded to questions from Lee County District Attorney Jessica Ventiere, who is prosecuting the case.
