MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE - A father is facing charges after his son found a gun and shoots himself.
On October 14, police were called to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital regarding a 2-year-old shot in the neck.
The father of the 2-year-old told investigators he had asked his son to grab his tablet from the bedroom. Moments later, the father heard a gunshot from the bedroom where he told investigators he found his son had accidentally shot himself.
The child was taken to hospital by private vehicle to Saint Francis Bartlett and later transferred to Le Bonheur.
Officers later went to the home of the shooting along Valmont Circle and retrieved a Glock 23 hidden under a tarp in the backyard. Police also found another AR-style gun along with marijuana inside the home.
The father, Devin Carter, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated child abuse, aggravated child abuse-endangerment, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of marijuana with intent to sell.
