MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE - A man is accused of committing a string of robberies within an hour, court records show.

18-year-old Marquis Townsel was charged with aggravated robbery.

On July 24 around 7:56 p.m., MPD officers responded to an armed robbery at 3156 S Mendenhall Road, which is the location for the El Portillo Taqueria Food Truck. When officers arrived on the scene, the owner told them that the business had been robbed at gunpoint.

According to court records, Townsel put a gun to the owner's back and stole around $2,000 before running off and getting into a red Kia Optima. Surveillance video captured the robbery. The owner followed them to the area of Kirby Parkway and Winchester but lost them. The suspect was wearing a red hoodie, gray sweatpants, and red slides.

On the same day around 8:30 p.m., MPD officers responded to an armed robbery at 4435 Wooddale Avenue, where two people said they were working on their car when a red Kia Optima backed into a parking spot and three suspects got out, pointing guns at the two individuals, and took around $400 in cash before leaving. Video surveillance of the robbery shows the same suspect in the same outfit as the previous robbery just 30 minutes prior, court records show.

Moments later, around 8:50 p.m., MPD officers responded to an armed robbery at 6433 Winchester Road, which is the location for the back parking lot of Crazy Mexican Sports Bar. An employee told officers that a person got out of a red Kia Optima, pressed a gun to his stomach, and took around $700 in cash. Surveillance video also captured this robbery as well.

Officers confirmed that it was the same red Kia Optima from the two other armed robberies within an hour's span, according to court records.

The owner of the red Kia Optima was taken into custody on July 31st and admitted to being the driver during all three robberies. The driver identified the suspect wearing the red hoodie, gray sweatpants, and red slides as Marquis Townsel.
