CICERO, INDIANA — A man suspected of a murder in Chicago was taken into custody following a traffic stop along the Tipton-Hamilton County line.
Around 2 p.m. Sunday, deputies with the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office heard a radio broadcast to try and locate a white Dodge Charger belonging to Carlos Keith.
Keith was reportedly a murder suspect out of Chicago; deputies did not say when the murder took place.
The broadcast reported Keith and the Charger were last seen on U.S. 31 between Argos and Plymouth in Marshall County, about an hour north of Tipton County.
Sometime later, an Indiana State Police trooper said over a broadcast that the Charger was spotted by a traffic camera in Kokomo and was driving southbound on Reed Road.
Tipton County deputies then traveled to U.S. 31 to search for Keith, eventually spotting him driving southbound over the speed limit.
Officers fell into line following Keith, notifying Hamilton County law enforcement that they were behind the Charger and asked for additional officers to assist them. Hamilton County officers then positioned themselves at U.S. 31 and 236th Street.
Once the Charger approached the intersection of U.S. 31 and 236th Street, Tipton County deputies conducted a “felony stop.”
Carlos Keith was taken into custody without incident. During the arrest, investigators found 2.5 ounces of marijuana and $762.
Keith was booked into the Tipton County jail on preliminary charges of possession and dealing of marijuana.
Deputies did not say when or if Keith would be extradited back to Chicago.
