LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY -- A 17-year-old is dead and a suspect is facing charges after a triple shooting in Valley Station Tuesday afternoon.
Matthew Sanders, a spokesperson for Louisville Metro Police, said officers responded to the 10100 block of Laurent Way at 4:11 p.m. for a reported shooting.
Police said officers found a 17-year-old boy shot in the head at the apartment complex. He was taken to UofL Hospital in critical condition and died a few hours later, according to police.
A second 17-year-old boy walked up to officers with a gunshot wound to the leg and was taken to UofL Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said a third victim, 18-year-old Jeremiah Robinson, showed up at St. Mary's Hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm.
In an update, police said after interviewing multiple people that Robinson has been charged with murder and assault.
A mugshot for Robinson was not immediately made available.
The shooting happened in a ground-floor apartment at the back of the building. Neighbors said the chaos that followed was terrifying.
One woman, who lives directly upstairs, told WDRB she heard the gunfire and rushed to help.
“I didn’t hear any commotion or arguing or anything. All I heard was pop, pop, pop, pop … and then one of the kids was like, ‘I’m hit,’” she said.
She said teenagers were screaming and running in and out of the apartment after the shots rang out.
“These kids down here — they were frantic,” she said. “They killed my brother, they killed my brother.”
She said the building is usually quiet during the day, with most of the kids at school.
“It is scary. I didn’t hear any arguing or commotion before the shots — just gunfire. I’ve never heard it that close,” she said.
