Troylen and Ashton arrested after Maringouin Louisiana shootings killed one and wounded another

MARINGOUIN, LOUISIANA - A second suspect is now behind bars in connection with a double shooting that killed one and injured another.
According to the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office, deputies first arrested Ashton Bourgeois, 19, on Monday, Sept. 1, in connection with the shooting. He is facing charges for second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.
Deputies announced the second arrest of Troylen Louis, 20. He is facing the same charges.
The shooting happened earlier that day, around 5 p.m., on Third Street in Maringouin.
Sheriff Brett Stassi said a 23-year-old man died from injuries sustained in the shooting after being taken to the hospital in a private vehicle.
The victim’s 24-year-old brother was taken to the hospital by ambulance with multiple gunshot wounds, where he is stable, according to the sheriff’s office.
The name of the victim who died has not been released. Details about what led up to the shooting have also not been released.
This is an ongoing investigation. Officials say additional arrests are expected.
This was the second shooting in Iberville Parish within a few days. A 24-year-old was shot on Friday, Aug. 29, on Barrow Street. He remains in the hospital, where officials say he is guarded but stable.
The sheriff is urging all residents, especially those who are younger, to pause and reflect.
“Violence is not the answer. This weekend, we lost a young man, a two young men have been hospitalized at the hands of others who will ultimately lose their freedom. We must find a better way forward,” Sheriff Stassi said.
