BOWLING GREEN, KENTUCKY - On the day his trial was to begin, a man charged in connection with a deadly 2023 shooting at Brookwood Mobile Home Park pleaded guilty.
Quinton Hampton, 39, of Auburn, entered guilty pleas Wednesday afternoon in Warren Circuit Court to charges of first-degree manslaughter, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Hampton was charged in connection with the death of Darrius Wickware, 30, of Bowling Green, who was shot and killed on Dec. 30, 2023, outside a residence at the trailer park.
Wickware was pronounced dead at TriStar Greenview Regional Hospital after being taken there in a private vehicle.
Hampton had been set to begin a jury trial Wednesday on a murder charge along with the handgun charge and a count of tampering with physical evidence, but plea negotiations carried out over the preceding days led to the case being resolved without having to seat a jury.
The plea agreement signed by Hampton reduced the murder count to first-degree manslaughter and dismissed the tampering charge.
