Zawadzki arrested after killing man on Chicago Illinois Orange Line train

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - The Chicago Police Department announced the arrest of Aaron Zawadzki, a 21-year-old McKinley Park neighborhood resident, related to the early morning slaying of a 26-year-old man on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at the 35th/Archer Orange Line El station.
“The … offender was arrested by members of the Area One Homicide Investigation Support Team,” Chicago police stated in a media release, with Zawadzki’s arrest taking place on September 10, 2025, in the 5500 block of South Hamlin Avenue, Chicago.
Zawadzki “was placed into custody and charged accordingly,” police said. In addition to a count of first-degree murder, Zawadzki was charged with a felony for possession of a controlled substance.
As previously reported here in the McKinley Park News, the shooting occurred after its victim harassed and argued with a man and a woman on the Orange Line El, starting at the Roosevelt El station platform and ending with the man and woman absconding on a scooter from the 35th/Archer station.
Police had announced their identification of a suspect based on Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) video surveillance, as previously reported, and anticipated an imminent arrest.
