Ernest charged after shooting his stepson during an argument in Newton County Texas

NEWTON COUNTY, TEXAS — A Newton County man was arrested Friday morning after deputies say he shot his stepson in the Sandjack community.
The Newton County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to an emergency call Friday at 7:23 a.m. on County Road 4393.
When they arrived, they found a 39-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound and immediately began life-saving measures.
Investigators quickly identified the suspect as the victims stepfather, Ernest Ray Keyes, according to the sheriff’s office.
Keyes and his stepson were arguing when Keyes allegedly pulled a 9mm handgun and shot his stepson in the neck according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.
