MISSISSIPPI - A Delta State University student was found dead in the middle of the campus on Monday morning.
The body was identified as 21-year-old was Demartravion Reed, known as Trey, of Grenada, Mississippi.
University police discovered his body at around 7am in central campus, according to the university's Director of Public Safety Mike Peeler.
'Delta State University is deeply saddened to confirm the discovery of the deceased individual on our campus this morning,' Peeler said in a press conference.
Peeler added that there is no evidence of foul-play and the student's body was retrieved from an area of trees near the university's pickle ball courts.
The university has requested assistance from the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation and other police agencies to assist in the ongoing investigation into the death.
Peeler reiterated that there was no lockdown or current threat to campus. Reed's cause of death is pending an autopsy report from Bolivar County coroner's office.
'I just want to confirm, this is a safe campus. Delta State University is a beautiful place to be,' Peeler said.
'It's just unfortunate this loss that comes heavily to our campus.'
