WORCESTER, MASSACHUSETTS - Jurors in Worcester Superior Court are slated to begin deliberations Tuesday in the trial of a man accused of kidnapping a 7-year-old girl in 2017, raping her in his car, and throwing her off a bridge connecting Worcester and Shrewsbury. The child survived the ordeal.
Joshua Hubert, 43, of Worcester, has pleaded not guilty to charges of attempted murder, strangulation or suffocation, kidnapping a child, and aggravated rape of a child with force, according to legal filings.
His trial began last week and closing arguments were slated for Tuesday morning, with jurors likely starting deliberations later in the day, the Telegram & Gazette reported.
Hubert allegedly kidnapped the girl from her grandparents’ Worcester home around 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 27, 2017, authorities have said. He had earlier attended a barbecue at the house, where he was a familiar figure through his friendship with the child’s father, according to law enforcement officials and relatives.
