COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA - A former Richland County councilwoman pleaded guilty Tuesday after being indicted on corruption charges.
Dalhi Myers pleaded guilty to one count of misconduct in office and three counts of use of an official position for financial gain inside a Darlington County courtroom. The plea came nearly two weeks before her trial was scheduled to begin on Sept. 29.
Myers was sentenced to prison on all counts, which was reduced to three years probation. She was ordered to pay $6,416.59 in restitution.
Myers was indicted in 2020 on over 20 counts, including misconduct in office, use of official position for personal gain, embezzlement, drawing and uttering a fraudulent check and use of campaign funds for personal expenses.
Myers was accused of using public funds for travel to cities such as Detroit and Nashville, as well as international trips to Greece. She’s also accused of using a county P-card to pay for expenses while also falsely claiming the trips were business-related. Myers also reportedly used the P-card at stores for other personal items.
The indictment states Myers provided “false and inconsistent explanations for the expenditures to conceal the absence of any link between the expenses and legitimate government business” and wrote a cold, $27,000 check to Richland County.
