Both suspects in weekend shooting admit to homicide, police say
URBANA, ILLINOIS — Both suspects in a shooting that took the life of a 35-year-old Urbana man on Sunday have admitted to their involvement in the homicide, investigators say.
Tyson Moore, 32, of Champaign and Deandre Newbill, 37, of Urbana both appeared in court for the first time Tuesday.
Each has been charged with four counts of homicide in relation to the death of R.L. Glenn Selvin in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Champaign County Judge Brett Olmstead ruled that Newbill would be detained overnight, at least until his full pre-trial detention hearing this morning.
The court went ahead with Moore’s hearing on Tuesday, and Olmstead ruled that he will be detained until trial.
Champaign police said they responded to reports of the shooting at the 2500 block of West Springfield Avenue, Champaign, at around 3:04 a.m. Sunday and discovered Mr. Selvin suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana, where he was pronounced dead at around 3:33 a.m.
Assistant State’s Attorney Scott Larson said that police obtained surveillance footage of the parking lot where the incident occurred which captured the shooting.
In the footage, Larson said, the victim and an unidentified woman could be seen out in the parking lot as an orange SUV drove by them multiple times.
