TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA - Seven men have been arrested after they were accused of stealing more than $800,000 worth of smoke detectors from Home Depot stores across Florida, including connection to a theft of $3,000 worth of detectors from a store in Lee County back in May.

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced the arrests, stating, "Remember, these are not victimless crimes." He added, "At the end of the day, it's consumers that pay the price when there's theft in retail stores and it ultimately leads to higher costs for security, for prices of goods and consumers are hurt."

Investigators uncovered at least 44 smoke detector thefts, with Home Depot losing more than $800,000. During a search warrant in Hillsborough County, investigators recovered $78,000 in stolen merchandise.
