(WPDE) - South Carolina State University (SCSU) is on lockdown as of Saturday night after two shootings were reported. The shootings happened during the university's Homecoming celebration after the school's football game. Public Safety issued a lockdown for the campus after the first shooting near the Hugine Suites student residential complex. Two people were transported to the hospital by ambulance, where one female victim died, and the other victim (male) was flown by helicopter to another hospital, according to a statement from SCSU. They said they have not been informed of the man's condition at this time. Another person was injured while running from the scene of the shooting. SCSU cancelled the homecoming concert scheduled for 10 p.m., all of Sunday's activities, as well as classes on Monday. The statement said the campus remains on lockdown and is only accessible to students, employees and investigators. They added that any parents who want to check on students are asked to report to the Public Safety Checkpoint at the Chestnut Street/Wilkinson Boulevard gate or call the department at 803-536-7188. The University is providing counseling services to support students through this time. Beginning on Sunday, trained clinicians are available until 6 p.m. in the Counseling and Self-Development Center, offering crisis sessions, small group circles and drop-in support. This will be available until Tuesday. Congressman Jaes Clyburn (SC-06) also released a statement following Saturday night's shooting. Congressman Clyburn's statement continued. Dr. Gerald Hubbard Smalls, vice president for finance and administration spoke on safety measures. “SC State also implemented additional safety measures, including controlled entry points for major events, increased camera monitoring, and enhanced emergency communications protocols," said Dr. Smalls. The State Law Enforcement Division (SLED), the Orangeburg Department of Public Safety and the Sheriff's Office are working together to investigate the incident. “Let’s continue to lean on each other and honor our shared humanity as we heal together," Jackson said. The neighboring campus, Claflin University said in a statement, "After hearing about the incident, we activated our campus alert system and students were instructed to report to their residence hall and to stay in their rooms, until we were informed the emergency situation had ended. Otherwise, we followed our normal protocols for campus safety."
