WEST MEMPHIS, ARKANSAS — According to our content partners K8 News, a West Memphis man has been arrested after he admitted to abusing a five-week-old infant multiple times. As a result of this abuse, the child tragically died.
Lieutenant Mark Harmon reports that Newport Police began investigating the possibility of child abuse on August 26.
“Detectives learned that a five-week-old infant had been flown to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock for advanced medical care,” Harmon said.
Over the course of their investigation, officers determined that the child's father 19-year-old Ranterious Alexander of West Memphis was a suspect in the case.
“Alexander was interviewed by investigators and admitted to multiple acts of abuse against the infant since birth,” Harmon said.
Alexander was arrested and booked into the Jackson County jail on charges of first-degree domestic battery.
The Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney's Office have been notified of the death of the child, but additional charges have not yet been filed.
