ROCHESTER, NEW YORK - Rochester police have arrested a 22-year-old man in connection with an August 27 shooting near 1 East Avenue that left two teens injured.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire around 8 p.m. and discovered evidence of a shooting at the scene. Shortly afterward, two gunshot victims — a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old — were found several blocks away in a stolen Nissan Rogue. Both were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
According to investigators, the victims had pulled up to a group sitting on a bench when someone in the group opened fire. The suspect, identified as Karnell Labord, a Rochester resident, fled the scene, police said.
Labord was taken into custody by the Rochester Police Department’s SWAT team on August 30 after a search warrant was executed on Boardman Street. He is charged with:
Two counts of second-degree assault
Two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
One count of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, due to a prior felony conviction
Labord was on probation at the time of his arrest, following a 2024 conviction for attempted criminal possession of a weapon. He remains in custody at the Monroe County Jail.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
