RICHMOND COUNTY, GEORGIA - The Richmond County Sheriff's Office arrested a murder suspect nearly two weeks after a shooting at a Waffle House.
Jalen Thomas, 26, is the second person arrested in connection with the shooting that happened Aug. 20 at the Waffle House on Talbot Drive in Hephzibah.
Thomas was taken into custody on Tuesday, Sept. 2, and charged with murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, according to jail records.
A day after the shooting, authorities arrested 23-year-old Layla Bennett, charging her with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
The shooting claimed the life of 23-year-old Antoine Stokes of Martinez, said Coroner Mark Bowen. Stokes was shot at least one time and taken to the hospital.
Coroner Bowen says Stokes died on Aug. 21 just before 4 p.m., and an autopsy was scheduled.
