DALLAS, TEXAS — Dallas police identified and charged a man in the beheading death of a 50-year-old man at an east Dallas motel.

Wednesday, Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, 37, was charged with capital murder in connection with the killing. Police responded to a stabbing call around 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at a motel on Samuell Boulevard. They found a man who had been beheaded and arrested a suspect a short time later.

According to an arrest affidavit from the Dallas Police Department, Cobos-Martinez became upset with 50-year-old Chandra Nagamallaiah, then produced a machete and began attacking him. He kept hitting him until he was decapitated, a witness told WFAA.

Cobos-Martinez was taken into custody shortly after the attack, after Dallas police saw him near the scene, covered in blood and still armed with a machete, according to the affidavit. In a recorded interview, he admitted to using a machete to kill Nagamallaiah, police said.

Jail records list Cobos-Martinez as an immigrant. He was apparently living in the motel at the time of the attack, according to the affidavit.

According to the affidavit, a witness said she and Cobos-Martinez were cleaning a motel room when the victim, Nagamallaiah, approached and told Cobos-Martinez not to use a broken washing machine.

The witness told police that Cobos-Martinez became upset because the victim was speaking to her to translate rather than speaking directly to him, according to the affidavit.

At that point, surveillance video showed Cobos-Martinez leave the room, pull out a machete and begin attacking Nagamallaiah, who attempted to escape the assault by running to the front office, according to the affidavit.
