LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA - UCLA's director of race and equity has claimed his 'livelihood' has been 'threatened' after he was suspended for allegedly celebrating Charlie Kirk's assassination.
Johnathan Perkins was placed on leave over a series of posts on the BlueSky social media platform in which he appeared to claim he was 'happy' that Kirk was killed.
The posts described Kirk's murder as a 'good riddance' and saw the author argue that it is acceptable not to mourn the MAGA influencer.
'It is OKAY to be happy when someone who hated you and called for your people's death dies - even if they are murdered,' one post read. Another said: 'You can't force people to mourn someone who hates us - no matter how he died.'
The account, believed to belong to Perkins, has since been deleted from the platform.
Perkins has now seemingly admitted to penning the hateful messages, telling the Los Angeles Times how they were 'written in my own hand, in my own voice, in no way the echo of my employer, UCLA.'
But he further criticized his employer's response to the posts, claiming he was 'devastated' by the university's reactions and that it is a 'sad day' when one is penalized for executing their First Amendment rights.
UCLA, however, said that 'free expression is a core value' at the university, but noted violence or the celebration of violence is 'completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated'.
