ENFIELD, NORTH CAROLINA - Shortly before 3 p.m. on Aug. 28, Sgt. D. Harrison with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Community Action Team conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on South McDaniel Street near Bell Street in the town limits of Enfield for a violation.
During the stop, deputies identified the driver as Joe Harper, 38, of Enfield.
According to a press release from Major Anzell M. Harris, while speaking with Harper, deputies observed signs of nervous behavior and evasiveness when asked about firearms. This behavior led Sgt. Harrison and Sgt. G. Martin to believe crime was afoot. Community Action Team members performed a search of the vehicle and a firearm was located inside the center console.
Harper was taken into custody and charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, felony carrying a concealed gun, and window tint violation. He was given a $20,000 bond with a Sept. 9 court date.
