HUNTSVILLE, ALABAMA - A retired Huntsville police officer and former head of the Huntsville Area Crime Stoppers has been indicted and arrested following an investigation by the Alabama Attorney General’s Office.
Huntsville Police stated that after Nathan Nickelson’s retirement in August 2024, discrepancies were discovered in the accounting of the Crime Stoppers account. The account is managed by the non-profit organization.
Huntsville Police said they reported the discrepancies to the non-profit Board of Directors and then referred the findings to the Attorney General’s Office for an independent investigation.
According to court documents, Nickelson took “all or a portion” of $25,520 meant to pay credible tipsters.
