DECATUR, GEORGIA - A Valdosta man was sentenced to life without parole Friday for a 2022 deadly shooting in South DeKalb Mall, according to a Friday press release from the DeKalb County District Attorney’s office.

James Elderidge Scott, 49, was found guilty by jurors of multiple charges in connection with the shooting in June 2022, per the media release. Below are the charges.

Malice murder
Two counts of felony murder
Aggravated assault
Possession of a firearm after being convicted of certain felonies
Three counts of aggravated assault weapon
Four counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
Giving a false name, address or birthdate to a law enforcement officer
In June 2022, the DeKalb County Police Department responded to a reported shooting at about 11:30 p.m. at a restaurant and bar inside South DeKalb Mall.

The District’s Attorney’s office said four people were found at the scene suffering from gunshot wounds but one victim, 48-year-old Daletavious McGuire, would not survive.
