JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA - A 28-year-old mother, Cheyenne Pope, was arrested last week in Florida after her infant son was hospitalized and tested positive for cocaine and fentanyl. Pope faces one count of neglect of a child resulting in great bodily harm following the incident, court records confirm.

The investigation began on the night of September 19, when deputies from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office were alerted to a suspected case of child neglect at University of Florida Health Hospital.

The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) notified authorities after an infant at the facility presented as “lethargic” and was subsequently found to have both fentanyl and cocaine in his system, according to a probable cause affidavit.
