WACO, TEXAS - “The safety of our students is and will always remain our top priority. We expect our employees to foster an environment where our students feel safe, supported, and valued,” Anderson said. “We want to reassure families that we are taking this matter seriously and thank them for trusting Waco ISD with the education of their students.”
According to an arrest affidavit, Waco ISD police officials were notified of “inappropriate communications” between Edwards and the student in text messages and on social media since last school year.
The student reported in a forensic interview that Edwards, who jail records list as being 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighing 200 pounds, approached the girl in the school hallway and said, “If you weren’t so young, I would snatch you up.”
She reported Edwards found her social media username and began to message her. The girl’s mother gave investigators permission to search her daughter’s phone and they found messages from Edwards’ phone, arrest records allege. A message dated Aug. 20 stated, “I really see potential and the beauty in you,” while messages the following day said, “I’d give you whatever you wanted,” “Need you for myself,” and “You more mature than most of the women I know.”
When the girl told Edwards that he could get into trouble, Edwards responded, “I’ll figure something out,” according to arrest documents. “I got my own house you’re always welcome Ill cook whatever snacks and stuff you want I’ll go get we can watch movies or whatever when you need a getaway from your mom and stuff.”
Edwards also sent messages stating, “I can’t shake the feeling you give me,” and “You make my heart speed up around me you make me smile from ear to ear showing all 32 without even trying you bring good energy and a good vibe you turn me on by just walking by feel like I’m young again around you it’s like you make me feel like im suppose to be the guy to make you happy when you going through bullshit with everyone else,” the arrest affidavit alleges.
