CINCINNATI, OHIO - The fate of Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge is now in question.
A source close to Chief Theetge has confirmed to FOX19 NOW’s Tricia Macke that the chief has been asked to resign.
Theetge was called back to Cincinnati from a police chief convention that she was planning to attend in Denver, the source says.
City Manager Sheryl Long confirmed in a statement that the chief was asked to return to Cincinnati immediately “to immediately address departmental matters.”
Long’s statement goes on to say, “I want to clarify that no employment change has been made regarding the leadership of the Cincinnati Police Department.
Mayor Aftab Pureval said Wednesday that the city is exploring “all options” pertaining to the chief’s position.
Mayor Pureval told our partners at the Cincinnati Enquirer that he wouldn’t rule out the possibility of seeking a new police chief.
When asked whether that means Theetge will no longer be the chief, Pureval said it means they are exploring all options.
