MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE - Armed suspects robbed an armored truck outside of Kroger on Friday morning, according to the Memphis Police Department.

At 11:05 a.m., officers responded to a robbery of an armored truck at the Kroger on 1212 East Shelby Drive.

A Loomis armored truck was stopped at the Kroger for a cash pickup. As the truck messenger got out of the back, a black Nissan Murano reportedly pulled behind the armored truck.

Police say two suspects armed with AR-style rifles then got out and forced the armored truck hopper to the ground.

A third suspect, armed with an AR-style rifle, then got into the truck and grabbed two large bags filled with cash, according to police.

All three suspects got back into the Nissan Murano and drove away from the scene.

The vehicle was last seen northbound on Elvis Presley Boulevard towards Raines Road.

Police say one suspect was a man last seen wearing a black hoodie and white pants. The other two suspects were last seen wearing black hoodies and black pants.

All three men were described as “thin.”

After Memphis police shared video of the incident showing the Loomis employee’s perspective, weekend Kroger shoppers were shocked to see how the incident went down.

“I feel for him,” says Rice, a Whitehaven resident. “He probably saw his life flash before his eyes.”

“We should be able to go to the store in the middle of the day without worrying about someone with a gun trying to take our possessions,” says Dr. Karen Streeter, a psychologist living in Whitehaven.

“Poverty is the real culprit here,” says Dr. Streeter. “We had a lot of things happen nationally as well as locally to make people feel so desperate that they would have to do something like that.”
