AUBURN, ALABAMA - A Wetumpka man is facing charges after a shots fired incident occurred in downtown Auburn — across from Toomer’s Corner.

The incident occurred just before 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, in the 100 block of North College, just across the street from Toomer’s Corner. The area had been packed hours earlier following an Auburn Tigers win in Waco, Texas, against Baylor University.

Auburn police were reportedly patrolling in the downtown area when they heard gunfire. Upon their arrival, they located a crime scene with multiple unoccupied vehicles that had been struck by gunfire, and the alleged suspect had already fled the area.

Following an investigation by Auburn Police Department detectives, Le’Gregory Ty’reil Blanks, 19, from Wetumpka, was developed as a suspect.

Elmore County Sheriff’s Office deputies located Blanks in Wetumpka, Alabama, and after further investigation, Blanks was arrested and charged with four counts of discharging a firearm into an unoccupied vehicle and reckless endangerment — all felonies.

Blanks was transported to the Lee County Jail and held on a $21,000 bond.
