NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE — Detectives are investigating a potential self-defense motive behind a deadly shooting in Antioch early Sunday morning.
The shooting was reported just before 1:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 24 outside of an apartment in the 2100 block of Century Farms Parkway.
According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, the preliminary investigation indicates 22-year-old Jerrion Phillips had been involved in a “domestic dispute” with his ex-girlfriend. Phillips reportedly left and returned to the apartment complex when a resident, described as a 23-year-old man, tried to intervene.
During the encounter, Phillips allegedly restrained the 23-year-old, who wounded Phillips. Authorities said Phillips was brought to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he died.
Officials said Homicide Unit detectives interviewed both the 23-year-old and Phillips’ ex-girlfriend at MNPD Headquarters.
