MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE - The serving of an arrest warrant in Memphis took a dramatic and bizarre turn on Tuesday when two brothers, Anthony and Antwon Gaines, allegedly attempted to evade police by escaping through their attic, only to fall through their neighbor's ceiling.

The chaotic descent reportedly led to an even more terrifying scene, as the brothers are accused of holding the neighboring family hostage at knifepoint.

Police were executing a warrant for aggravated assault at the brothers' residence on Flowering Peach Drive in Memphis when they say the 19-year-olds fled into their attic.

Their escape route, however, ended abruptly in a loud crash next door.

The bewildered neighbors told police that the brothers fell directly into their home, and one of them, Antwon, then allegedly brandished a kitchen knife, ordering the family to stay quiet and not open the door.

The ordeal ended when the neighbors reportedly seized a moment of distraction to escape and call the police.

The brothers now face a slew of charges, including aggravated kidnapping, aggravated burglary, and various weapons and drug offenses. The arrest also led to the discovery of a handgun and marijuana plants at their home. The Gaines brothers are scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, with no bond set.
