LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA - Police have released additional details regarding the recent arrest of a Jennings teen who is accused of attempted murder.

The Jennings Police Department says officers responded to reports of gunfire in the 900 block of Wilbert D. Rochelle Ave. on Sept. 2. When they arrived, officers say they found the residence and a nearby vehicle under a carport had been struck multiple times by gunfire, and that there were 15 spent 9mm casings nearby.

During the incident, police say eight individuals, including a two-week-old child, were inside the residence. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported in relation to the shooting.

Police later identified a suspect in the shooting as Jomarick Sellers, 18, who had been in an altercation earlier that day where he brandished a firearm and made threats to one of the people inside the residence.

Detectives would later spot a gray Dodge Challenger that was linked to Sellers and conduct a traffic stop on it. They say when they attempted to stop the vehicle, it fled at speeds over 140 mph, and began recklessly driving through active construction zones along I-10.

Pursuing officers made the decision to end the chase in the interest of public safety. But the vehicle would later be located after it crashed in a field near Egan.

Officers say Sellers was found in the area and arrested after a brief struggle. When searching Sellers and the vehicle, they say they found multiple packages of synthetic marijuana that were ready for distribution, along with a digital scale.

Sellers has been booked on the following charges:

8 counts of Attempted First-Degree Murder
Aggravated Flight from an Officer
Aggravated Assault with a Firearm
Resisting Arrest
Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule I Narcotics (Synthetic Marijuana)
