Man arrested after murdering estranged wife Tomekia and 7-year-old niece in DeKalb County Georgia apartment complex
DeKalb police said they caught the suspect, identified as 48-year-old William Lewis Almond, after he was on the run for hours.
They said Almond is the estranged husband of the woman, identified as Tomika Pullins, 29, and the uncle of the girl, identified as Dior Scott.
The deadly double shooting happened at 2505 Columbia Drive, the address for the Forest at Columbia Apartments. At least two dozen law enforcement vehicles responded.
The victims were shot inside an apartment and later died from their injuries, DeKalb County police said.
“We believe this to be a domestic incident, but not a random act,” Elise Wells, DKPD public information officer, said soon after the shooting.
DeKalb police said they believe Lewis was trying to get into the apartment.
“When he was not allowed in, (witnesses) say he broke a window and fired multiple shots inside, hitting both victims,” DeKalb police said in a statement hours before Almond’s arrest.
A woman and a child, “younger than 10″ were shot and later died from their injuries, police said.
“If you are in (a) domestic violence (situation,) cut ties with them, block them, everything,” Nakita Bruce, Pullins’ mother, said. “My daughter was reaching out for help. And, I shouldn’t be saying this, but DeKalb let her down. This is what we were here for, for her. Trying to protect her from all of this.”
