Joseph Wichard, 35, was hit with charges Saturday of attempted rape and sex abuse for allegedly approaching a 34-year-old woman and sexually assaulting her inside a nail salon where she worked at W. 36th St. and Broadway on Sept. 1, authorities said.
According to court documents, Wichard entered the salon and grabbed the victim by the arms, attempting to kiss her. The victim fought back, biting Wichard, who then threw her to the ground, tried to undress her, and groped her, the documents stated.
The victim, however, fended off the attack by striking Wichard with a vacuum cleaner, the documents stated, adding he then ran from the salon.
Wichard and the victim were strangers to each other, the documents stated. EMS transported the woman to a nearby hospital, where she was in stable condition, police said.
