MARYLAND - A gravely unwell mum pushed her own child on a swing for 44 hours non-stop, leading to his heartbreaking death.

Romechia Simms was 24 when her schizophrenia drove her to a fatal breaking point.

She continued pushing the lifeless body of her son, Ji'Aire Donnell Lee, who had died from dehydration and hypothermia, backwards and forwards on the swing for more than two days.

Officers discovered Ji'Aire was still breathing when initially placed on the swing two days prior to his death.

They responded to La Plata park in South Maryland in 2015 after a passerby reported the disturbing scene to authorities, reports the Mirror.

The Charles County Sheriff's Office revealed inquiries showed Simms had been continuously pushing him on the swing since they entered the park 44 hours beforehand, around 11.15am on May 2.
